July - Part 2

We were able to spend lots of time outside taking walks, and bike and scooter rides around the neighborhood.  The kids love to stop to pick up sticks, rocks, pine cones and play in the puddles.

The kids posed so cute for some photos while we were out for a walk one evening!

And we enjoyed the warm rainy summer days: me with my camera and the kids in the water.

Anna rides her scooter through the rain.  I don't think either she or Lamar had ever played in the rain.

Taneesha and Lena with all the neighborhood kids playing in the rain together.  It was so fun to watch the older ones dancing and singing just as much as the little ones.

Lamar, T'sha, Lena and Anna

We are freezing Mom.  But we had so much fun.

Catching Up - July

In July, we did lots of fun things and I took so many pictures.  To celebrate 4th of July, we went to Kollen Park with Katie, Rob and twins to watch the fireworks.

We also had a bonfire and enjoyed yummy s'mores.
We took the kids to John Ball Zoo.  Lena kept asking about seeing the elephants.
Paige, Lamar, Anna, Lena and Peyton looking at the bald eagles nest.
Just hanging around with the goats.  They make great listeners and rarely talk back.
Feeding the ducks after our picnic lunch.

Catching up!

I can hardly believe that my last post was back in May after we took the kids to Holland for Tulip Time.  We have had a very busy summer filled with lots of fun and many different activities.  In June,  the weather got warm enough for the kids to play in the pool.

And we took walks to Captain Sundae, a local ice cream shop where the kid love to sit in the wooden ship while we eat ice cream.

Out for a Walk

Here are a few updated pictures of Anna and Lamar.

Pray for me as I continue to learn how to care for Anna's hair. As many of you know, doing hair is not my talent, but I am trying.

Welcome Anna and Lamar

On March 24, we welcomed Mary-Ann (Anna) and Lamar. Our household has become a very hectic combination of T'sha and all her middle school friends and 3 busy preschoolers.

Lena, being the oldest of the 3 little ones, likes to be "in charge", telling them what to do and always trying to touch them. But she and Anna have become great friends and play wonderfully together. They are sharing a room and it is very cute to hear little girl giggles and whispers in the baby monitor after the go to bed.

Anna is 3 1/2 years old, turning 4 in June. She is a very happy little girl, full of hugs and kisses. Anna loves to play with baby dolls and dress-up, prancing around the house in a pink, frilly dress saying, "I am gorgeous!!!" She has settled into her daycare center nicely and loves to play with the kids.

Lamar is 2 1/2, turning 3 in Sept. He is an active little boy who loves to eat. And he wants his food NOW!!! Lamar has lots of spirit and loves to be held. He is learning that words mean something and that everything in the world has a name. Lamar was hospitalized a week after we got him for pnemonia and rotavirus. His stay at Zeeland Hospital was 4 days. He too, enjoys going to daycare and playing with the kids and teachers.

Angelena Marie VanDine Worley

On April 15, 2009 Lena became part of our family officially. We had a court hearing at the Fillmore complex in Ottawa county in front of Judge Hulsing. He gave Lena her "big-girl" name and then signed the official adoption order. Lena got to bang his gavel at the end of the hearing and then gave the judge a big hug. Oh she has come so far in 2 1/2 years. We are so blessed to have Lena in our lives.

Adoption Day!!! April 15, 2009

We are happy to announce . . . the placement order for Lena's adoption has been officially signed. And we have a date to finalize her adoption with the judge: April 15 at 8:30am.

This has been a very long road for her. Lena began this journey in May 2006 when she entered the foster care system at the age of 18 months. She joined our family on Oct. 10, 2006 after living in 2 different foster homes. We are so thankful that this is Lena's last stop and we are her forever family. We cannot imagine life without her, even on her most difficult days.

Thank you to everyone that has believed in this process, encouraged us, supported us, loved us, prayed for us and mostly importantly, made Lena an important part of your life and ours. Our family is thankful for your love and friendship.

Timber!!!

This morning we took our first major step in preparation for the addition to our house that we are hoping to start this spring. We had the huge tree in the back yard taken down. It was both exciting and sad at the same time. We hate to kill living things and Stacy loves trees. But the tree was in the way of making our living space bigger. So . . . down it came. The tree company arrived at 10:48am and were gone by 12:30pm. Less than 2 hours to fall the tree, cut it up, chip the brush, grind the stump, and do a small amount of clean up. Very impressive.

We have met with our builder several times now to go over drawings and make changes. We have finalized all the major details and the overall look of the house. We plan to push our dinette out about 8 feet. To the east we plan to add a mud room/entry-way and above both the mud room and dinette we plan to add a large room which will be on the 2nd story. The use of this room has yet to be determined. It will have an open concept to it, so we are thinking that depending on our needs, we will use it as a tv room, or a play area, or a temporary bedroom when we do weekend respite foster care.

Please pray that this huge undertaking goes smoothly. We are hoping to get this project started as soon as we are safe from frost and the spring rains.

Dylan Moves On

On Friday afternoon, Dylan moved to his new foster home. Everything seemed to go smoothly on our end, but we have not heard how it went once he got there. He really has no concept of what is happening or that he is not coming back to our home to live. We miss him already and look forward to his phone calls and visits. Taneesha expressed that she is sad he had to leave. And Lena just keeps asking when Dyl-Pickle is coming back from his moms. To her this seems like he is gone on his regular visit with his mom and she is anxiously awaiting his return.

Please continue to pray for Dylan as he makes this transition into this new family. And for his mom as she is not happy about this move and wishes that he would have remained with us. We will remain in close contact with her as she works hard and is anxious to have Dylan back in her care full-time.

We were truly blessed to have Dylan in our home and even though he is not physically with us, he will always be part of our family. We also know that Dylan has been blessed by many of you. Thank you for loving him.

Dylan adores Peyton and Paige. And the twins think that he is hilarious.

Lena lost her 1st tooth.

Catching Up

Boy, it sure has been a long time since I last updated my blog. My apologies. Life had taken a turn toward true and utter chaos with the Taneesha's school play, the holidays, birthdays, the New Year . . . blah blah blah. But now we seem to be settling back into some form of normalcy, whatever that is exactly I am not sure.

Taneesha turned 12 in November. She is having a great year in 6th grade. The transition to middle school has gone very well for her. She got all A's on her report card both 2nd and 3rd marking period. A huge boost of self confidence for her. Piano and her flute continue to be major points of focus for her. And of course her friends! It has been fun to watch her personality develop over the past few months as she becomes more independent and social. T'sha has she has been affectionately nicknamed by Dylan, is a terrific big sister and a true blessing to me.

Lena turned 4 in December. Hard to believe that we have had her for 3 of her 4 birthdays. Her favorite playtime activity continues to be dress-up and thankfully Santa knew just what to bring. Lots of beautiful princess dresses (Halloween costumes found on clearance) and clip-clop shoes (plastic high heels) that make wonderfully loud clip-clop sounds when she stomps across the hardwood floors. She lost her 1st tooth last week. (well the dentist helped it out b/c Lena was very afraid she was going to swallow it). After the tooth fairy made a visit, Lena informed us that she is a very sneaky lady b/c she was super quiet when she "flew" through the stairway. Oh to have the imagination of an innocent child. Lena is struggling with some difficult behaviors and angry outbursts but we are working very closely with a therapist to address those areas.

Dylan has lived with us for 10 months now. He is doing pretty good overall. Dylan definitely is a happy young man full of love and laughter. His speech has improved greatly and he continues to work on personal boundaries with people and animals. Dylan has a great love Katie's twins, Peyton and Paige. And they think that he is just hilarious. Since I last posted about him, there has been some changes to Dylan's plan. After weekend visits started, we were planning that he would be returning to his mom's home in January, but there was a set-back over the holidays. So . . . it could be months before Dylan's mom will be ready to have him at home. And with some newly developed behaviors from him, we have decided that it is time to move Dylan to another foster home. The agency is currently looking for something else. We are sad to have to make this decision but it is in the best interest of Dylan, his mom, and our family. We pray that the new family will be open to us remaining a part of Dylan's life. Our entire extended family has come to love both him and his mom.

This coming spring and summer we hope to get the addition to the back of our house started. We met with the builder on Wednesday and they have begun to work on some drawings for us. The plan is to push the dinette out 6-8 feet to the south, add an entryway to the East and put a room above the dinette on the 2nd story. This is going to be a huge undertaking for us, but are excited we will have more usable living space for our family and the children we hope to love through foster care. I hope to be able to post pictures as the process goes along.
